The 'Shoe Rack'

Yesterday I went to my friend Drew's house to hang out. Drew was carving a mask (he is a bad ass artist with whom I'm collaborating...but that's another post) and feeling a bit frustrated with his progress. I suggested that he take a break and help me with a little project.

My girlfriend and I are getting a new roomate, and we needed a new 'shoe rack' for our entry way. Luckily, all my tools are at Drew's so there was no issue there. But what about the wood? Not a problem. A few months ago, Drew and I 'borrowed' some landfill-destined pallets from various buisnesses around Anchorage. We figured we might be able to recycle the wood to build furniture. My shoe rack was a perfect opportunity to put the pallets to use.

The clouds lifted and the sun came out as we belt sanded the wood down, and drilled the pieces together. 2 hours later, we sat by the fire and enjoyed our completed project: The Recycled Pallet Shoe Rack.

Hanging with Hopper

Last night, Matt Hopper showed up at my place with a loaf of bread and a jug of water he'd collected from from a roadside stream on his way home from Fairbanks. "It's from Troublesome Creek. I need to boil it so I don't get giardiasis", he stated calmly. Obviously, his rigorous touring schedule over the last 7 years hasn't depleted his woodsy Alaskan 'Animal Instincts'...

Anyway, we hung out last night into the wee hours, talking about music, as well as his new Richard Swift produced album, Jersey Finger. We also played some music, and discussed a possible Hopper/ Phillips album in the future. Until then, check out Jersey Finger at www.matthopper.com

evanphillips.net

I'm starting a new website and for now it will be a simple blog. The last year and a half has brought many changes in my personal life and music career. The Whipsaws are on hiatus until further notice. Hopefully we'll release our 3rd record sometime in 2011. In other news, my folk group Easton Stagger Phillips is currently in pre-production mode for a new album. Additionally, I have written and recorded 20 new demos. I'll be hopefully going to work on a new solo record sometime in August or September. Stay tuned for details.
